The Hook of Holland (Hoek van Holland as it is locally known) is a small port town in the Netherlands which connects the country with Harwich in England. The travel time is approximately 6 hours and 30 minutes and there are up to 15 ferry crossings per week, depending on the season.
The settlement of The Hook of Holland came into existence when the Nieuwe Waterway was dug up to create a more efficient waterway from the harbour of Rotterdam to the sea. This waterway completely opened up the opportunity for the ferry industry which is now an iconic and essential aspect of the port town. It is also ideal for connecting the busy city of Rotterdam with the UK and vice versa.
There is just one ferry operator - Stena Line - that operates the route from Hook of Holland to England (Harwich). There is just one ferry terminal here.
Directions For Getting There
The ferry port is very easy to reach via car. The E30/E25 network of motorways links the Hook of Holland port with Amsterdam, Rotterdam and the rest of Holland. Join the motorway and follow the signs to ‘Engeland' and ‘Hook van Holland'. There are both short and long-term car parking facilities available at the terminal.
If you are travelling by train, the Amsterdam Express and other local rail services arrive directly outside the terminal building from Rotterdam and The Hague which is extremely convenient.
There aren’t really any efficient or appropriate means of arriving by bus/coach, although Stena Line can sometimes operate their own shuttle service to and from the ferry.
